The President of the Republic, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, received on Saturday at the City of the African Union the members of the Panel of Facilitators of the African Union (AU), who have just concluded their consultations in Kinshasa during the last two days as part of peace efforts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes region.
The meeting provided the facilitators with an update with the Head of State on their exchanges in the Congolese capital, including with the country’s officials and civil society. “It was a successful mission especially for the substance we have had, with the aim of finding a solution to a conflict on the continent that has lasted too long and is the most costly in all directions,” said the former President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde.
Zewde assured that “UA is involved in finding a lasting solution that will help the Congolese people to enjoy what it has, a people to whom God has given everything. We hope that peace will be restored in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo so that not only the country, not just the immediate neighbourhood, but all Africa can benefit. »
In addition to the former President of Ethiopia, the AU delegation included, among others, the former President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta, the former President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, and the former President of the Central African Republic, Catherine Samba-Panza. After Kinshasa, the Panel will visit Uganda and Burundi, before visiting the Congolese cities of Beni, North Kivu province, and Bunia, Ituri.
